Tenterfield Railway Museum

“The Great Northern Terminus” train station opened in Tenterfield in 1886 and ran services until 1988. The station precinct is a rare surviving example of once common sight across NSW–a beautiful hub from a golden age of rail travel. The Museum is an almost-intact nineteenth-century railway complex, with the contents of the building preserved since its closure. When the line was extended to the Queensland border in 1888, Sydney and Brisbane were linked by rail for the first time. The popularity of rail travel declined gradually from the 1970s and the station closed in October, 1989.

Tenterfield Railway Station Preservation Society now operates the entire precinct as a Railway Museum.
