Basket Swamp National Park
Located 23km north of Tenterfield, Basket Swamp National Park is a wild and lesser-known treasure, rich with natural beauty, cultural significance, and unique wetland ecosystems. A haven for self-reliant bushwalkers, the park features meandering swampy gullies, rocky outcrops, and densely forested valleys. It’s also home to the endangered brush-tailed rock wallaby, the vulnerable spotted-tailed quoll, and a wide variety of birdlife.
Visitors can explore Timbarra Lookout, take a refreshing dip in Basket Swamp Falls, or venture further to the sacred Aboriginal site of Woollool Woolloolni — a Djuravehl, or centre of spiritual power, in the Bundjalung culture. The site’s striking balance of rock and spiritual mythology makes it a place of quiet awe and reflection.
